Adjust the pillow height with large hard covered books to reduce the pain of the backbone especially the lumbar region in a back sleeping position.
A slightly raised head/neck position will cause the upper thoracic to bend slightly making the lumbar more relax and straighter, supported by the mattress. As the lumbar becomes stress free, there will be less pain in the lumbar after waking up from sleep.
One of the reason why some people without injuries always have lumber pain is because of spinal curvature have worsen due to osteoporosis or degeneration of the backbone, poor standing and sitting postures and habits. Cold drinks, foods and fruits also cause rheumatic pain in the lower back.
