Recent studies have indicated that pumping the sternum continuously to stimulate the heart has a higher survival rate than old teaching method. The kiss of life may be risky nowadays as there are too many diseases seen in the population.
Contagious diseases are not easily diagnosed in an emergency rescue and especially in an unconscious person eg. Hepatitis, TB and non-full blown Aids, etc.
