Normal cycling on normal bicycles can only burn some calories and strengthen the thigh muscles however the upper torso cannot burn the necessary fats especially around the waist since the upper body is almost motionless while cycling.
Sports cyclists usually have good waistline. They train long distance and long hours but the most critical factor in burning the fats around the waist is the left and right twisting movement of the waist during cycling.
In other words, if we can cycle with this left and right twisting movement of the waist while cycling at slow speed on ordinary bicycles, we can burn fats in the waist effectively. ( The seat of the bicycle will have to be raised higher so that the body needs to twist to the sides of the bicycle in order for the feet to peddle at its lowest revolution )
Quick walk with the similar left and right twisting movement of the waist and arms can also help to burn fats in that area too.
